Next up in the grass court season is the Aegon International tournament at Eastbourne. A great venue and a fantastic line up including most of the WTA top 20 Johanna Konta will be there plus most of the other big names including Jelena Ostapenko the amazing new French Open champion!
OK so now its time for the grass court season! You can bet that Rodger has been practicing on grass for at least two weeks so he is a contender at Wimbledon for sure! Rafa maybe but don’t count on it, Andy, if he’s fit then yes he will be there about as for Novak I really don’t know, it would not surprise me if he took a few months off as he is simply not the same player as he was last year, amazing but true I think. Personally I can’t see a more obvious winner at the moment than Rodger Federer, what do you think?
And the girls? much much harder to predict, no Serena much of the top 5 girls not in great form perhaps its time as with the french for a new face to come through? It should be a great Wimbledon anyway!
ITS 10 FOR RAFA!!
Can you believe it!? Rafa beats Stan in straight sets for take his tenth French Open title. Never before in the history of tennis has anyone won 10 grandslam titles of the same tournament and to do it on the French clay is a remarkable achievement. The gods were with Rafa this year, Novak seemingly out, Andy ill and out, Rodger missed and everyone else beaten all this paved the way for Rafa Nadal to win his tenth title, surely now the greatest tennis player ever? What do you think?
AMAZING!!!! The amazing Jeļena Ostapenko beat Simona Halep to win the French Open!Never before have I seen someone hit the ball so hard and so well as this young 20 year old from Latvia. It was like she was on the practise court and a joy to watch her play. She had never won a single game in a grandslam tournament before so even more amazing to win the French Open, great for her and great for tennis!
So we are into the second week of the French Open and some great matches have already been played last week. Andy Murray is into the quarter finals and will face Kei Nishikori. The matches really start to get serious now with anyone of 5 players left who have already won a grandslam title!
So the French Open has started and already we have a huge shock!
World No.1 and top seed Angelique Kerber was shown the door by dangerous Russian Ekaterina Makarova in the opening round at Roland-Garros on Sunday. Rafa is ready for the French Open but does not think he is favourite. Understandable I think or perhaps Rafa is taking the pressure off himself? I think Novak and Andy will be challenging plus Stan too. I would love to see Rafa get a 10th title on the red clay, lets see!
This is still he’s best chance of another grandslam title as grass has never been is favourite surface and hard courts although he’s great on them take their toll on his knees. Lets see, Vamos Rafa!!No Rodger for this years French Open! Logical decision to skip the French and concentrate on the grass court season so don’t rule out another grandslam title! With Novak and Andy struggling for form is it Rafa’s to lose??
The weather is slowly starting to improve. This time of the year we turn to the beautiful red clay courts! Sadly not too many real French clay courts in the uk, but don’t miss the French open on tv – May 28th to June 11th.
Should a very exciting tournament as Rafa tries for his 10th title, Rodger has had little clay experience this year and Andy/Novak not playing their best tennis at the moment, perhaps its time for a newbe to come though? Don’t forget Stan though his favourite surface is clay!
Andy Murray crashes out of Madrid Open! A bad day at the office for Andy, but he still has a couple of weeks to go before the French Open starts, hopefully enough time to re-coup and get really for the second grand slam of the year.
